CSCS Tests
The CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Test, also known as the Health, Safety & Environment Test, is an essential requirement for individuals working on construction sites in the UK. It ensures that workers have a basic understanding of health and safety practices needed to maintain a safe working environment.
The CSCS Test is required to apply for a CSCS Card, which proves that the individual has the appropriate training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out on-site.
There are different types of CSCS tests tailored to specific job roles, including:
- Operatives Test – for general labourers and entry-level site workers.
- Specialist Test – for skilled workers such as plumbers, electricians, and carpenters.
- Managers and Professionals (MAP) Test – for site managers, surveyors, and other supervisory roles.
The test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, covering topics such as:
- General safety
- Manual handling
- Working at height
- Fire prevention
- Hazardous substances
Target Audience
The CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Test is aimed at individuals working in or preparing to enter the construction industry. This includes:
- Construction Labourers and Operatives: Entry-level workers seeking access to construction sites, typically applying for the Green Labourer CSCS Card.
- Skilled Tradespeople: Qualified professionals such as plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and bricklayers who need the appropriate Specialist CSCS Card for their trade.
- Supervisors, Managers, and Professionals: Site supervisors, foremen, surveyors, and project managers requiring the Managers and Professionals (MAP) Test for Gold or Black CSCS Cards.
- Apprentices and Trainees: Individuals enrolled in construction-related college courses or apprenticeships who need a Trainee CSCS Card to begin site work.
- Employers and Site Managers: Those responsible for ensuring workers on site meet health and safety requirements, often arranging tests for their workforce.
- The test is suitable for anyone looking to demonstrate their health and safety knowledge and gain access to construction sites across the UK.
