This course is a half day course

The CAT & Genny Training course is delivered by one of our highly experienced instructors, each with a strong background in utility detection, site safety, and practical equipment use.

Our trainers ensure that participants receive clear, practical guidance and have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in discussion, and gain real-world insights that go beyond the basics of equipment operation.

To ensure full understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of the course, delegates will complete two forms of assessment:

• A theory test to confirm their knowledge of relevant legislation, safety protocols, and core principles of underground utility detection

• A practical assessment, where delegates will demonstrate correct use of CAT and Genny equipment, applying different detection techniques in a controlled environment

Successful completion of both elements confirms the delegate’s competence and confidence in safely using cable avoidance tools on site.

For the practical elements of the course, we will supply the CAT and Genny equipment, ensuring all delegates have the opportunity to practise using the tools under expert supervision.

This allows participants to become familiar with industry-standard devices and gain hands-on experience without needing to bring their own equipment.

All handouts, slide presentations, and supporting literature relevant to the CAT & Genny Training course will be supplied by us.

These materials are designed to reinforce the training, provide valuable reference information, and support delegates in applying their knowledge confidently in the workplace.

There are no formal prerequisites for attending the CAT & Genny Training course, making it accessible to a wide range of participants. However, the following is recommended:

• A basic understanding of construction, groundworks, or utility operations

• Familiarity with general site safety protocols

• A willingness to participate in hands-on, practical training

In some cases, participants may be asked to complete a registration form and provide proof of employment or involvement in a relevant field.

This ensures the course is tailored to those who will benefit most from its practical applications and safety-focused outcomes.

As the course includes a practical, hands-on element, all participants are required to bring and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suitable for a construction environment.

This includes:

• High-visibility vest or jacket

• Safety boots

• Hard hat

• Protective gloves (if required by your site or company policy)

• Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing, as some practical exercises may take place outside

Delegates who arrive without the required PPE may not be able to participate in the practical component of the training.

Upon successful completion of the CAT & Genny Training course, delegates will be awarded a UK Industries Training In-House Certificate of Competence.

This certificate confirms that the participant has:

• Completed both the theoretical and practical components of the course

• Demonstrated a solid understanding of underground utility detection using CAT and Genny equipment

• Shown the ability to apply safe working practices in line with industry expectations

This in-house certificate serves as valuable evidence of training and competence for both employers and regulatory compliance purposes.

The UK Industries Training In-House Certificate of Competence awarded for this course is valid for 5 years.

After this period, it is strongly recommended that delegates complete a refresher course to stay up to date with:

• Current industry best practices

• Advancements in detection equipment

• Updated safety regulations and procedures
