This course is ideal for anyone who works at height, regardless of sector, and is especially suited to those new to working at height.

The PASMA Working at Height for Novices course is tailored for individuals with little or no prior experience working at height. It provides a solid foundation in height safety, covering the essential risks, regulations, and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Through a combination of classroom-based theory and practical demonstrations, participants will learn how to identify hazards, carry out risk assessments, and apply safe working practices.

By the end of the course, learners will have the confidence and knowledge to work safely at height and ensure compliance with legal and industry standards.

This is a classroom instructor lead course.

In this theory-based course, you will learn about:

• Relevant laws, regulations, and best practice for working at height

• Employee responsibilities under the Work at Height Regulations

• Available training and official guidance

• Conducting and understanding risk assessments

• Emergency procedures and rescue planning

• How to inspect access and safety equipment

• How to find and use essential safety information

• Types of access equipment and their uses

• How to choose the right access equipment for the task

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements

• Safe practices for working on roofs

• Identifying and managing fragile surfaces

• Understanding and using fall protection systems

This course is a half day course

Although it’s a PASMA course, it’s not all about mobile access towers. It covers the whole range of access equipment, thanks to specialist input from our friends in the Access Industry Forum.

There is no practical work involved in this course; it’s all classroom-based theory. No hard hats or tower climbing required!

The written assessment tests each delegate’s understanding of the key theoretical concepts covered during the course, including risk assessment, safety regulations, and best practice when working at height. This is combined with practical elements to create a well-rounded learning experience.

This dual approach ensures that participants not only retain the essential knowledge but also develop the confidence to apply it safely and effectively in real-world situations.

This is a classroom based course.

All necessary course materials will be provided, including booklets, literature, slide presentations, and expert instruction. Delegates will receive everything they need to fully understand the content and confidently pass the written assessment.

The entry requirements for the PASMA Work at Height (Novice) course are designed to ensure that all participants can engage safely and effectively with the training.

There are no formal prerequisites, making the course accessible to individuals from all backgrounds and industries. However, delegates should:

• Be at least 18 years old

• Have a basic understanding of health and safety principles

• Possess a good level of English reading and writing, as all instruction, course materials, and assessments are delivered in English
