What does PASMA stand for?

PASMA stands for the Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’’ Association.  This association is well known and focuses on using mobile access towers safely as well as promoting the best practice in this specific area. The organisation is comprised of a team of experts and works with other professional bodies to make sure that essential skills and knowledge is provided at every level, to the working at height industry. Often the PASMA training is the only proof that is accepted for height working. Many thousands of people complete the course, which must be done at PASMA approved training centres.

What is PASMA training?

To answer your question, what is PASMA training. As with the CSCS card, the PASMA card allows you to work with a mobile tower.  Without it, it is unlikely that you will be able to do your job. This card will open up opportunities for you to improve your career prospects and shows potential and current employers that you understand that safety and best practice is important to you in the workplace.
Falls at work, specifically from heights are not uncommon, indeed they account for about half of the workplace deaths that occur in the UK.  It is for this reason that strict health and safety regulations must be adhered to and that anyone who works at height must show that they are competent when using work at height equipment.  The possession of a PASMA card is proof that you have this competency.
Competency at a legal standard means far more than just the ability to be able to assemble and dismantle mobile towers, although this is part of the PASMA training course. You will learn how to identify potential hazards and detect technical defects in the equipment you are using too. Other competencies that you should have include understanding the principles of fall protection, the Work at Height regulations, understanding safe and unsafe situations, correct storage methods and how to check the safety of equipment amongst many other things.  You will also learn how to deal with hazards such as wind, strikes by vehicles and falling objects.  All of these things are potential hazards at work and you need to know how to deal with them if they arise.
